For example, the Intel 286 gave way to the 386, then the 486, the Pentium
I, II, III, IV and so on. The point is, a lot of evolution took place
not so long ago and change was constant.
Back then, computers were not always the most reliable either. Chips and memory ran faster and faster with each step... and software was pushing much of this evolution as it quickly evolved with greater capabilities. But with these advances also came unforgettable headaches with both hardware and software.
Today, things are quite different - as a rule. With Windows XP has come superior stability compared to the legacy versions of Microsoft's earlier operating systems. With this more stable operating system and software to go with it... has come some very good hardware. And while still advancing in speed and capabilities, today's 'boxes' do not need to be replaced nearly as often as the equipment being made less than 10 years ago. The point is - provided you have equipment that's not too old, you're probably nearly the "down time" you did years ago.
And that brings us to today.
Computers have changed. So have computer services.
The question is - has your computer service provider adopted the latest technologies to do things like...
- Keep your operating system up to date with the latest updates?
- Protect you from viruses and other evils lurking on the Internet and in your e-mail 'Inbox' just waiting to cause a fatal system crash or worse?
- Let spies watch everything you do on your computer and log every keystroke including login names and passwords?
- Have they offered you an automatic backup system so that if your system crashes, you won't lose your data?
- Have they talked to you about Remote Servicing - the up and coming standard for computer repair and service?
If not, then you owe it to yourself to see what you're missing - and what it may be costing you.
Remote Servicing - what it is & how it can help you.
With today's more reliable hardware and software, new technologies are emerging to make your life a lot easier... especially when it comes to computer service. For example, instead of having to wait for a computer tech to come to you to solve a software issue - why not use remote services instead? At Soft-Temps, when you have a problem, we can quickly link you with one of our experts who is familiar with your combination of operating system and software - even if it's specialized business or applications software that the local repair techs know nothing about. Remember, we have thousands of highly skilled computer and software experts as part of our database. We can search our database in your area and assign your service ticket to someone who is very familiar with your system and its software. This can be done fast!
Next, you'll have the option of selecting 'on-site' service - where we come to you. Or, you have a 2nd option... that is often faster and less expensive, as it avoids a service call and trip charge. It involves having our consultant use a type of special, limited-access software utility that allows you to let our tech connect to your computer or network to resolve your problem. Even if you live 50 miles from the nearest qualified consultant, no problem. With your permission, he or she can connect to your system and work with you to fix the problem, quickly and with no service call. This can save you money and get your system(s) operating again very quickly.
Why won't your local computer service company tell you about remote service?
Remote service is becoming very popular - but you may not hear about it from your local computer service company... and for good reason. First, a lot of smaller computer service companies are reluctant to offer remote service because they may not have enough techs on staff to handle this type of work.
Second, and perhaps most important, they know that by offering remote service, they stand to make less money on each call. The way some of these guys look at it, with remote service, they may get 25% LESS per hour than if they showed up at your front door. They're paying their tech a salary so it just makes more sense to drive to you... versus connecting PC to PC to fix the problem. There are many other reasons as well - many companies perceive remote service as a threat to their break/fix business model that is supported by on-site service calls. Overall, remote service can save you money in many instances - not all, but many. Be sure to ask about it the next time you talk to your Soft-Temps franchise member or tech.
Oh yes, this is such a powerful system that all of the major computer manufacturers throughout the USA, and the world, are adopting remote service as a new way of doing business. But watch out? Due to their astronomical overheads, these large companies cannot be competitive with firms like Soft-Temps... not even close. You're welcome to compare, but be prepared for a shock when you hear their rates. At Soft-Temps, we make it our mission in life to keep overhead low, to keep your prices low. If you want the best value in computer services, be sure to ask about remote service and see if it's right for you. If you have broken hardware, or if you can't connect to the Internet, this option may be out. But if all you need is a quick fix to something we can do remotely, why not keep your service bills low and use remote service instead? It's taking over the industry - because it just makes sense.
Remote Monitoring - detect and fix problems before they happen!
By now, if you've read the material above, you know a little about what's possible with remote repair service - connecting us to you via the Internet for the purpose of fixing a software problem, removing a virus, installing new software or patches or updates - or any number of other issues that routinely pop up.
But did you know that at Soft-Temps, we're affiliated with Tech Umbrella - a company that has introduced an amazing product that goes even further than remote repair. Just imagine this: Your system begins producing error messages alerting that something's wrong - fact is, a disk drive is about to fail. Or maybe you're running out of disk space, or maybe you've outstripped your memory resources and your system is getting very S-L-O-W.
Or, try this. Sally, your trusted office assistant has decided to install some game software on her computer. Sounds innocent enough... except that the disk Sally has with her today is infected with a Trojan Horse program - a hackers way of getting access to all of your private data, user names and passwords, account data or private client data - perhaps even lists of credit card numbers. By simply installing a game program, Sally could cost you tens of thousands of dollars by the time you recover from this horrible mess. Can you see the potential for serious problems? Happens every day.
OK, now assume you've signed up for the Soft-Temps remote monitoring service where our computers are alerted, via the Internet, if bad things happen to your computers or network. Via the Tech Umbrella advanced technology system - we can install a special utility program on your computers that watches for problems - disk drives that are reaching their capacity, memory that's insufficient for the job at hand, hardware that's becoming unstable and may fail. All of these problems, and so much more, can be monitored via our system.
How it works...
We can e-mail you a simple utility program that you can install, or we can install for you. Next, the utility program begins gathering all sorts of information about your operating system, your Windows Registry settings, the type of hardware you have on your computer, disk drive settings - everything you'll need to recover should your systems ever experience problems or complete failure. Of course, it goes without saying that our monitoring system does not access any data, not could it because we have no way to bypass passwords and other security measures. All we want is to take an inventory of your system hardware and the settings for that hardware. We have no access to your system unless you provide that access for purposes of solving a problem... and to do this, you'd have to log us into the computer. For security reasons, we cannot do that from our end.
Now, once all of that hardware information is recorded and sent to our system to be retained in case of a system emergency - we just wait for updates from your systems or network. If our software detects problems or errors with your computers, or unauthorized software that's been installed as with the example of Sally above innocently putting a virus laden game CD into her machine, or a virus that's now become an ".exe" or executable file and is now active and ready to do damage - our computers will be immediately notified of the emergency via the Internet. In other words, we'll be notified before you're even aware that tragedy may be about to strike.
The next step - we will promptly contact you and explain the problem. With your permission, you may give us access to your system and using remote service technology, we'll remove the offending software, provide updates, change settings or do whatever is needed to resolve the critical problem. And as you can see, this is all done remotely. We don't even have to come to your site for any of this - and thus, this helps keep the cost down.
OK, so what does it cost?
You'll be pleasantly surprised to learn that our costs are downright cheap! Pardon the expression... but the fact of the matter is, we know that in order to win your business and keep it, we need to keep costs down while providing superior service across the board. Prices for remote monitoring vary depending on whether our franchise member offers this service on its own, or in combination with a Service Plan. So... to answer your question about prices, please click on the menu tab at the top of the page entitled, "Our Price List" and check the Service Plan rates or the Remote Monitoring rates.
How can I learn more?
If you have a few specific questions, please feel free to e-mail your Soft-Temps franchise member. Or, pick up the phone and call. Our franchise member can arrange a demonstration for you so you can learn, first hand, all about this amazing technology. And, why it's driving our competition bonkers due to its pro-active nature and low cost. You owe it to yourself to protect your business and your computers. Once you see the level of big-business protection you can get (at little business prices) you'll be wonder how you ever got along without it!
Thank you.
